As boudoir photographers with over 10 years of experience, we have a pretty solid process in order to guarantee quality and safety to every potential client.
There is a lot about the boudoir photography industry that may not be obvious if you have never experienced it before. Allow us to share our professional insider secrets by highlighting what we consider as “red flags” so you can make the right choice in your boudoir journey.
Disclaimer: The opinions and recommendations shared in this article reflect our own professional experiences, personal perspectives, and business practices as boudoir photographers in 2026. Every photography business operates differently, and these views are not intended to represent the entire industry. We encourage readers to use their own judgment when choosing a boudoir photographer.
1) Not meeting your photographer prior to your session
The majority of people choosing to do a boudoir photoshoot are women. And the majority of these women come to boudoir in the first place to use it as a tool to learn to love their bodies and build their confidence up. Mutual trust between the photographer and client is essential, and it cannot be built without meeting each other first.
Our take: we meet every single prospective client before booking anything. It is our way to guarantee safety for everyone and answer any questions without locking anyone in.
2) You can't get a clear pricing guide.
It is very common in our industry to have a pricing range displayed on our websites so people can get a rough idea of what budget to expect. The reason behind that is to avoid having too much information overwhelming you, as the budget can indeed vary a lot depending on what you are looking for (number of photos, digitals, prints etc).
However, a detailed pricing guide should be available for you upon asking your photographer, at any point during your booking process. It could be a list of photo packages, itemized printing options, price per photo, anything beyond a “starting at”. If there is a minimum spend, it should also be clearly stated beyond a small line in a contract.
If you aren't able to get a solid idea of what you could be spending or if you are getting a “we will see once you see your photos”, it can be a sign that pricing just gets changed depending on who you are.
Our take: we have a public session fee with a set price followed by a pricing range for photo products. A link with every option listed is also available upon request. Our minimum spend on photo packages is the smallest one of $580 in 2026.
3) The privacy policy is confusing and/or does not protect you.
Due to the nature of the photographs, you should have total control on whether your boudoir images will be used for promotional purposes or not. Of course, all artists love the option to show their work BUT those are private photos of yourself and you should never be forced to have them shared online by the studio (or worse: having to pay extra so they don't use them). You should also have the opportunity to ask for changes, such as deleting the photos from back up hard drives after delivery.
Our take: our contract states that a release form will be completed together after your selection is made. You can then decide if you allow us to use certain images from your selection for our website and social media, or not. We have also altered our contract for specific clients who wanted us to delete their images fully once their own back up was done, and we have no issues doing so.
4) Reviewing and having to purchase your photos the same day as your session.
Not all professional boudoir photographers will agree on this one: unless it is a distance issue or a very crunched timeline, we do not recommend going through your reveal session the same day as your photoshoot and there are 2 reasons for it:
A photoshoot is a lot. You have likely been here for a good 4 hours already, between hair and makeup and the actual session, during which you learn a lot of new things you have never done before, while letting go of emotional barriers. For many, it can almost feel like a workout and while it is super fun, you can also feel like you need a nap after. Walking you through your selection for another 90 minutes to 2 hours after that can lead to “pressure-buy”. The last thing we want is for you to feel overwhelmed, doubting your choices. A good photographer and business owner does not want you to leave with a selection of images you are not certain to love.
On our end, we too spend a lot of energy on your session and we too want a clear head to walk you through your selection properly. On top of that, it makes us half-ass our selecting process so you don't have to wait too long and there is no way in hell we want to compromise our quality of work.
Our take: we offer reveal sessions a few days after the photoshoot, when you have a clear head. While you do have to make your final selection then, we do not have a time limit for you to review your photos. It is usually done at our studio but we do offer online as well if it is more convenient. If you have any kind of deadline (wedding, birthday, etc) , just make sure to mention it early in your booking process and we will accommodate as much as we can.
5) The deliverables are not clear.
We don't all deliver the same kind of final product. To manage expectations, it is a must to know how you will receive your final images. Are they printed only? Do you get digital copies? If so, what resolution are you getting? Is it a USB or an online gallery? Those are questions you are free to ask clarification on, at any time during your process.
Our take: all of our packages are digital-based, delivered in high resolution, without a watermark. Some packages also include printing options such as albums, that are removable if you are not interested. All of this information is shared with you during our pre-booking consultation or upon request.
This concludes our unfiltered insider tips for your boudoir photography journey! Remember, never hesitate to ask questions or take the time you need to feel comfortable with your decision. Ultimately, we all want the same thing: for you to have a beautiful, empowering experience that you will cherish for years to come.
